XenForo installation
Forum Fortress ships a production-ready XenForo 2 add-on. Install it the same way you would any other XenForo add-on; once it is enabled, it can start protecting your forum right away.
What you need
- XenForo 2.x and permission to install add-ons (super administrator).
- Your server allowed to make outbound HTTPS to the Forum Fortress service (
api.forumfortress.com, unless your host told you otherwise).
What to do
- Download the latest ZIP from the portal:
- Download for XenForo
- In the XenForo admin control panel, go to Add-ons → Install/upgrade from archive and upload the ZIP.
- Install and enable the add-on when XenForo asks.
- Open the Forum Fortress options screen (the add-on adds its own group). Enter your public forum URL / domain the way visitors see it. If the add-on offers to open the portal or connect an account, that step is optional—see Your account & forums.
- If something still will not talk to us, check reverse proxies and firewalls so TLS to the API host is allowed.
Soft Delete Purge (optional)
Soft Delete Purge is a separate, free add-on for housekeeping old soft-deleted content. You do not need it for spam protection. Grab xenforo-purge.zip from the same portal download area if you want it.
Keeping the add-on up to date
The add-on can check /v1/plugin-release for newer builds (see the API overview if you are curious). When a new version appears, download a fresh ZIP from the portal and run XenForo’s normal add-on upgrade.
If something goes wrong
- Odd behaviour right after install: confirm outbound HTTPS and DNS; some hosts block unfamiliar API domains.
- 429 or timeouts: same idea—egress, WAF, or rate limits on the host side.
- Moderation: XenForo shows challenges in the native approval queue; actions you take in the portal sync back through the add-on.
